Better Than Ever

Long a staple of European grocers and delicatessens, Athens, Greece-based Creta Farms has now introduced a line of better-for-you sausages in the United States. Available in Beef Smoked, Smoked and Cheese Smoked varieties, the sausages feature extra-virgin olive oil in place of a portion of the animal-fat content, resulting in a product with up to 24 percent fewer calories and as much as 53 percent less saturated fat compared with similar products. A 14-ounce package retails for a suggested $5.49. The brand will also soon launch a line of hot dogs and bologna that have been certified by the American Heart Association (AHA) -- marking the first time that hot dogs will sport the organization’s well-known Heart Check Mark.
