Bankruptcy Judge Approves Winn-Dixie's Latest Request for Business Plan Extension
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores here got its wish yesterday, as U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Jerry Funk approved the chain's request for a third 90-day extension in filing its reorganization plan. The company's creditors had asked the court to limit the extension to 30 days.
Winn-Dixie now has until March 20 to file a plan and until May 22 to get approvals of the plan. The company aims to emerge from Chapter 11 reorganization by June.
The company had already secured two 90-day extensions since filing for reorganization in February.
Also since filing for reorganization, Winn-Dixie and its management team have initiated the closing and selling of 326 stores, which will allow the retailer to focus on its strongest markets.
