AT&T to Provide Voice and Network Data Services for Wakefern

KEASBEY, N.J. -- Wakefern Food Corp. here has signed a four-year contract for San Antonio-based AT&T, Inc. to provide wide area network (WAN) and managed services solutions.

AT&T said it will connect Wakefern's 250-plus domestic stores and corporate offices by employing innovative managed data services over a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network with DSL backup. The supplier said it will additionally provide an extension of its AT&T Business Network Voice Services.

Wakefern needed to introduce applications that would require increased bandwidth over a more reliable network, said AT&T. A team of AT&T Integration Solutions specialists and members of AT&T's solution provider, Alliant Technologies, worked with the grocery co-op to create a cost-effective solution that delivers expanded bandwidth for new applications, with network reliability delivered via DSL backup.

"The seamless, integrated AT&T solution addresses technology issues that result in a better in-store experience for our customers while helping us to control technology costs," said Charles Hawalka, manager for Wakefern's communications and information services division, in a statement.
