Associated Wholesalers Selects NCR FastLane

ATLANTA - Associated Wholesalers, Inc. (AWI), a cooperative wholesale food distributor serving approximately 250 supermarkets in the northeastern United States, has turned to NCR Corporation to help answer the growing consumer demand for self-checkout in its members' stores.

Deployment of an initial order for NCR FastLane, which allows shoppers to scan, bag and pay for their groceries, is expected at selected member stores within the next three to four months.

"We chose NCR FastLane because of its flexibility, reliability and ease of use, as well as our confidence in NCR's ability to deliver world-class installation and support services," said AWI director of retail systems Glenn Kriczky. "A growing number of our members want to offer their customers the convenience of self-checkout, and we believe the NCR solution best meets their needs."

A survey by the Food Marketing Institute found that nearly one-fourth of consumers who shop at a store with self-checkout report using the system at least once a week.

"Independents and regional chains are finding that self-checkout is not just for larger businesses," said NCR FastLane VP and general manager Mike Webster. "In addition to offering an attractive return on investment, NCR FastLane can be configured to fit virtually any store's layout and operational needs."

NCR is based in Atlanta.
