Associated Wholesale to Expand its KC HQ

Associated Wholesale Grocers plans to consolidate its operations at its Kansas City, Kan., headquarters next summer after completing a $6.5 million addition to the facility.

The 35,000-square-foot addition will add a second and third floor to its existing headquarters, which adjoin a distribution center operated by the association, the Kansas City Star reported. More than 1,100 employees will work at the expanded headquarters and distribution center; the company also has distribution centers in Fort Scott, Kan.; Southaven, Miss.; Springfield, Mo.; Oklahoma City; Memphis and Goodlettsville, Tenn.; and Fort Worth, Texas.

The expansion is being assisted by a 10-year property tax abatement and $6.5 million in industrial revenue bonds.

Associated Wholesale Grocers is an 85-year-old retailer-owned grocery cooperative with annual sales of nearly $8 billion and supplies independent retailers in 22 states.
