Associated Foods’ Corp. Stores Back MDA Shamrocks

Salt Lake City-based Associated Food Stores’ (AFS) corporate stores’ group, Associated Retail Operations (ARO) – which consists of five different banners and formats including Macey’s, Fresh Market, Dan’s, Lin’s and Dick’s Markets throughout the Utah area – are once again teaming up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) for the 32nd annual Shamrocks mobile program to help raise funds for local families affected by muscle disease.

Through March 17, customers can show their support for MDA by purchasing and signing a $1 green or $5 gold Shamrocks mobile while shopping at ARO locations in their area.

“We are so excited that we have the opportunity to help send children affected by muscle disease to MDA summer camp by participating in the annual Shamrocks program,” said Sarah Pettit, AFS retail PR and social media manager. “MDA summer camp is often referred to as the ‘best week of the year’ by MDA families. With support from our generous customers and employees, we know we can make a difference again in 2014 and ensure that some very special kids can spend a special barrier-free week at camp creating life-long memories.”

AFS first teamed up with MDA in 2001 for its Shamrocks program. In 2013, the independent retailer-owned distributor raised more than $76,000 during the Shamrocks program through customer donations. To date, Associated Food Stores has raised more than $600,000 for MDA.

Funds raised at Associated Food Stores in Utah will help send area children affected by muscular dystrophy and related diseases to MDA summer camp at Camp Roger in Kamas, Utah. The program also helps to support MDA’s worldwide research program and national network of 200 medical clinics, including the MDA Clinic at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

ARO is a group of corporate stores owned by Associated Food Stores, an independent retailer-owned warehouse which provides products and services to more than 400 grocers throughout the Intermountain West.
