Asian Food Markets Bites into Big Apple with First Unit

NEW YORK -- Asian Food Markets, Inc. has signed a 25,128-square-foot lease at the West Shore Plaza in Staten Island, N.Y., according to real estate firm Robert K. Futterman & Associates (RFK). The Asian foods retailer will open its sixth store at the 256,000-square-foot shopping center.

The new store will join Burlington Coat Factory, AC Moore, Modell's Sporting Goods, Shopper's World, and Chuck E. Cheese in West Shore Plaza. Asian Food Markets has leased the space previously occupied by Amazing Savings. RKF e.v.p.'s Barry Fishbach and David Rosenberg and associate Mark Lopatukhin represented the landlord, Shore Plaza, LLC.

"This is Asian Food Markets' first store in the [New York City] boroughs and a great addition to the recently repositioned West Shore Plaza," noted Fishbach in a statement.

Asian Food Markets currently has five locations in Cherry Hill, Plainsboro, Middletown, Edison, and North Plainfield, N.J. Plainsboro store operates under the Asian Food Center banner.

The company, founded by W.K. Chan in 1992, stocks a broad assortment of items from many areas of China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Japan, Korea, India, and other Southeastern Asian countries. The stores include seafood, produce, poultry, bakery goods, kitchenware, and deli foods.
