Apples to Play Cameo Role for Mother’s Day
The Cameo Apple Marketing Association (CAMA) wants to target consumers in search of new ways to honor Mom on her special day. To that end, Wenatchee, Wash.-based CAMA has designed in-store signage and recipe pads featuring an omelet packed with Cameo apples and Brie cheese for use on retail shelves during the weeks leading up to Mother’s day, which this year falls on May 9.
“This new Cameo promotion gives retailers a turn-key promotion to drive late-season sales, the key to strong total annual apple sales performance,” explained CAMA director of marketing Kevin Precht. “By offering a new and different usage suggestion for Cameo apples, this promotion appeals to consumers looking to broaden their apple experience.”
The promotion consists of an 11-inch-by-7-inch point-of-purchase sign, and a 100-sheet 5-inch-by-3-inch recipe tear-off pad, with an adhesive backing.
Cameo apple sales in the United States were up by 38.7 percent in second quarter of 2009 over the year-ago period, according to CAMA, which adds that spring is a significant opportunity for retailers to boost apple category sales by playing up the Cameo variety.
