Appeal Helps North Texas Food Bank Reap Supplies
DALLAS -- A request for supplies to the news media in late June by the North Texas Food Bank here helped the agency bring more than 3.3 million pounds of food into its warehouse in July.
Since Sept. 11, 2001, the number of families fed by the Food Bank's members has risen from 35,000 per month to 73,000, generating a demand that is increasing far more quickly than donations.
"We are so thankful to the North Texas community for their action and generous support from families who are unable to meet the basic need of food," said Jan Pruitt, North Texas Food Bank c.e.o. "We especially want to thank the Dallas-area news media for their invaluable support in reaching their audiences with a message that their neighbors needed their help."
