A&P Supermarkets Rolls Out Children’s Health Fund Donation Initiative

The Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. launched a program Sunday to enable shoppers at any of its banners to donate to the Children’s Health Fund (CHF) at checkout. The program runs through May 31.

Shoppers can purchase square-shaped cut-outs featuring a photograph of CHF’s Mobile Medical Unit, in denominations of $1 and $5. Customers will be able to write their names on the cutouts, which will then be displayed throughout the stores. All proceeds from the initiative will go to The Children’s Health Fund, which provides health care to medically underserved children and families.

Raising donations for CHF has become one of the grocer’s main philanthropic efforts, with over $550,000 brought in for the organization in 2007 alone.

Recently A&P unveiled three large sculptures in the shape of medical equipment at the entrance of its Montvale, N.J. corporate headquarters. The sculptures were created to show support and help increase awareness about the millions of needy children and families who lack medical care.

A&P operates 447 stores in eight states and the District of Columbia under the following banners: A&P, Waldbaum's, Pathmark, Best Cellars, The Food Emporium, Super Foodmart, Super Fresh, and Food Basics.
