A&P, ASPCA Launch Preferred Pet Club

The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. Inc. (A&P) has introduced a Preferred Pet Club program in collaboration with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The new program offers exclusive discounts to pet owners in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Connecticut, while backing an organization famous for its commitment to animal welfare.

For every $100 they spend on their pets, all A&P, Pathmark, Waldbaum’s, The Food Emporium and Superfresh customers will get a coupon for $9 off their next grocery order, and A&P will make a $1 donation to the ASPCA. As an added benefit, pet owners who enroll in A&P’s Live Better Wellness Club will be able to save an additional 10 percent on all of their pet prescriptions. The promotion runs through Dec. 31.

“A&P is always looking for creative ways to help customers save on their day-to-day purchases,” noted John Moritz, SVP of marketing at Montvale, N.J.-based A&P. “Through this program, we are especially proud to support the meaningful work of the ASPCA, while giving pet owners even more reason to look at their neighborhood A&P, Pathmark, Waldbaum’s, The Food Emporium or Superfresh store as the go-to resource for their pet care needs.”

“The fact that customers will be able to help support the ASPCA by doing something as simple as grocery shopping is really remarkable,” said Elysia Howard, VP of marketing and licensing for the New York-based ASPCA. “The generous contributions we’ll receive from A&P through the Preferred Pet Club Program will allow us to do even more life-saving work across the country.”

As well as making regular donations to the ASPCA and offering discounts to shoppers, A&P plans to hold “Adopt-A-Pet” events in select stores throughout the year to help find homes for abandoned and mistreated animals. Shoppers can find out more at www.preferred-pet.com.

The company's banners stock a full line of pet food and supplies for a wide range of animals, including dogs, cats and birds of all sizes, through all life stages.

A&P operates 361 stores in eight states and the District of Columbia under the following banners: A&P, Waldbaum’s, Pathmark, Best Cellars, The Food Emporium, Superfresh and Food Basics.
