Anuga’s Executive Summit: Corporate Social Responsibility

The Anuga Executive Summit will bring leading food industry managers together in Cologne, Germany, during the run-up to the industry’s largest trade fair, bringing Alain Caparros, CEO at REWE Group in Cologne, and Matthias Berninger, global head of public policy at McLean, Va.-based Mars, Inc., to the table to focus on the theme of “Corporate Social Responsibility.”

A long-term corporate strategy includes not just clear business visions and goals; companies know that today it’s not only their financial results that are in the public eye, but also their actions as members of society. This is why trading and industrial companies are increasingly taking responsibility for the effects their activities have on the environment, on consumers, on employees and on society as a whole. They know that they can fulfill their social responsibility only by working together to master this challenge. This understanding is opening up areas of cooperation among companies, but not opportunities for competitive positioning.

The invitation-only Anuga Executive Summit offers the top managers from the world’s leading trading and industrial companies a forum for the discussion of current trends and strategic approaches to the issues of the future.

Anuga’s opening event is being organized and presented by the Bundesverband des Deutschen Lebensmittelhandels e.V. (BVL -- Federal Association of the German Retail Grocery Trade), Berlin; the Bundesvereinigung der Deutschen Ernährungsindustrie e.V. (BVE -- Federation of German Food and Drink Industries), Berlin; The Consumer Goods Forum, Paris (formerly CIES); and Koelnmesse. The congress will take place Oct. 9, 2009, in the Theater am Tanzbrunnen, which is located right next to the Cologne exhibition center. Around 400 guests from Germany and abroad are expected to attend the Anuga opening event.

Following the conference, Turkey, the Anuga 2009 partner country, presents Turkish celebrity TV chef Serkan Bozkurt, who has made a name for himself beyond Turkey’s borders with his innovative interpretation of traditional Turkish cuisine. Bozkurt will offer the Anuga Executive Summit guests a chance to discover the tasty delights of contemporary Turkish culinary culture. Additionally, three-starred Michelin chef Joachim Wissler of the restaurant Vendôme in the Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg is creating a menu exclusively for Anuga.
