Anuga to Showcase Global Food Industry

Food exports from the United States to Germany increased nearly 15 percent from 2009 to 2010, according to the latest industry figures. Driven by strong spending in Europe’s largest food market, Germany is attracting exporters and investors looking to tap the European market.

This is one of many reasons for attending or exhibiting at Anuga, the global food industry trade fair taking place in Cologne, Germany, this Oct. 8 to 12. A central business and communications platform, Anuga brings together the suppliers and top-decision makers of the global retail, trade and foodservice/catering markets.

Held every two years in Cologne’s Koelnmesse Convention Center, Anuga’s unique concept of featuring 10 specialized trade show segments in one location has been highly successful in matching exhibitors with their right target audience. The 10 segments are Bread & Bakery/Hot Beverages; Chilled & Fresh Foods; Dairy; Drinks; Fine Food; Foodservice; Frozen Food; Meat; Organic; and RetailTec.

In its 31st year, Anuga is expected to attract about 6,500 exhibitors representing 100-plus countries. An estimated 150,000 international trade buyers will shop the 10 segments, which are strategically organized into their own exhibit halls.

The biggest and most international of the Anuga trade shows is Anuga Fine Food, the fair for delicatessen and gourmet products and general provisions. The event, which features around 3,500 exhibiting companies, is the most important platform for manufacturers and importers of delicatessen products and their customers from the food trade and the catering sectors.

The range of products at Anuga Fine Food encompasses all aspects of international cooking, from Mediterranean cuisine to Asian and Australian specialties, spices and fine ingredients from the Orient, and exotic dishes and beverages from Africa and the countries of South and Central America. One of the fair’s major themes will be Italy, which will demonstrate its food and beverage expertise as the partner country of Anuga 2011.

For 2011, Anuga organizers have identified nine trend topics that will be highlighted throughout the 10 segments: Finger Food; Gourmet Products & Regional Specialties; Halal Food; Health & Functional Food; Industrial Ingredients; Kosher Products; Organic Products; Private Label; and Vegetarian Products.
