Andronico's to Shutter Walnut Creek Store

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Fast on the heels of the closure of its Danville location last month, community-based independent Andronico's said it now plans to close its Walnut Creek store in December.

Bill Andronico, the chain's, c.e.o. said this would be the last closing, since it was the final step in fulfilling its bank debt obligations, according to local press reports.

The Danville location was bought by another independent, Lunardi's, which reopened it under its own banner on Sept 19.

Unlike the Danville location, however, speculation is that the Walnut Creek location will not re-open as a grocery store; reports claim Andronico's has requested permission from the store's landlord to assign the lease to another party.

Andronico's operates four stores in Berkeley, and individual stores in San Anselmo, San Francisco, Palo Alto, and Los Altos.
