Aldi Plans to Enter Florida

ESSEN, GERMANY - Aldi Group, the German discount retailer with more than 800 U.S. locations, is eyeing Florida as its next lucrative market. The retailer plans to open at least 20 stores in the Orlando market and more than 100 stores in the state, according to published reports.

Aldi is currently working on real estate deals in the Orlando area and expects to be open for business by 2008, according to the reports. A distribution center also is planned for central Florida.

Aldi eventually plans to open more than 100 stores in the state.

The retailer, which uses a no-frills, scaled-down format to sell groceries at low cost, operates more than 800 stores in 26 U.S. states.
