Aldi to Open New Fla. HQ, Distribution Center

HAINES CITY, Fla. -- Discount grocer Aldi has broken ground on a new headquarters and distribution center here, which will collectively support 25 new stores opening in central Florida in fall 2008.

"Grocery customers can expect a bill up to 50 percent less than anywhere they shop now, and employees can expect a great working environment with well-paying jobs,” said David Behm, Aldi division v.p. He added the new facilities are part of the chain’s strategy to expand along the East Coast.

The $40 million, 500,000-square-foot distribution center will service stores in the Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Orlando markets, which Aldi plans to begin opening in September 2008.

Aldi operates nearly 900 U.S. stores in 26 states from Kansas to the East Coast.
