Albertsons LLC Upping Investment in Ethnic, Specialty Food

BOISE, Idaho -- Albertson's LLC here yesterday said has expanded its business with distributor Millbrook Distribution Services, Inc. to include specialty, natural, and ethnic foods.

"Millbrook's category expertise, along with its ability to pick and ship in quantities as small as one piece, represents a significant opportunity for us to optimize our retail inventory investment in the specialty, natural, and ethnic food categories," said David Dean, group v.p. for procurement for the chain, which operates 362 supermarkets in 11 states. "As a result, we will have more shelf space available enabling us to offer our customers a wider assortment of products yielding higher overall sales per store."

Millbrook, a subsidiary of Distribution Holdings, Inc., already supplies many non-food categories to Albertsons, including cosmetics, hair care, candles, party needs, hosiery, and small appliances. Millbrook's distribution centers in Harrison, Arkansas and Tampa Florida will be the primary facilities supporting the new business.
