Albertson's Extends Online Service in Southern California

FULLERTON, Calif., Feb. 6 - Albertson's Inc. today announced the expansion of its online grocery service, Albertsons.com, to California consumers living in Los Angeles, Riverside and Orange Counties. With this expansion, Albertson's now serves communities stretching from Van Nuys in the north to San Diego in the south.

The online service, available at www.albertsons.com, covers most of Southern California with service to 234 zip codes in Los Angeles County, 127 in Orange County, and 32 in Riverside County. In addition, Albertsons.com is available in San Diego County and the Seattle/Puget Sound metropolitan area.

The company will fill online orders directly from 10 centrally located brick-and-mortar stores in the greater Los Angeles/Orange County area. A full selection of grocery, pharmacy and dry good items will be available at the same prices available in Albertson's stores, according to the company. Shoppers can choose to have groceries delivered to their home or office within a prescheduled 90-minute window, or pick up their pre-paid, pre-packed groceries at a convenient Albertson's store. A total of 200 neighborhood stores in the region will offer the pick-up service.

"The San Diego service has been a great success, and we are seeing promising growth in the Southern California marketplace," said David Simonson, president of Albertson's Southern California Division. "Many customers have asked for this service, and we hope shoppers will take advantage of this new option. We view this innovation as another way to provide customer service, and our statistics show that California customers are enthusiastic about the convenience."

Albertson's originally launched its online grocery service in Seattle in November 1999. In October 2001, the company expanded its online service to 146 zip codes in San Diego County.
