Albertson's Expands Online Grocery Service to Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore. - Albertson's Inc. today expanded its online grocery service -- Albertsons.com -- into Oregon, offering convenient delivery or store pick-up at 31 neighborhood stores in Oregon's Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties and Washington's Clark County.

"Albertson's is excited to expand this convenient new service to Oregon," said Mike Clawson, vice president of Albertson's Northwest Division. "Albertsons.com has set the trend for brick-and-mortars to be able to offer an online shopping solution to our customers. We are convinced we have the right model and customer service to succeed in this market, meeting our customers' high expectations for quality and service."

To commemorate the market entrance, Albertsons.com trucks will deliver $5,000 worth of food to Oregon Food Bank.

In November 1999, Albertson's Inc. became the first national brick-and-mortar food and drug store company to launch its own grocery delivery Web site when Albertsons.com entered the Seattle market. The company expanded the service to San Diego County in October 2001, and added the Los Angeles area in February 2002. By using its brick-and-mortar stores, Albertson's has evolved its online model to take advantage of its retail grocery expertise, brand recognition and existing infrastructure.
