Albertsons Ends Preferred Card Program
BOISIE, Idaho -- Albertsons LLC has decided to end its Preferred Card program at its Southwest stores, opting instead to offer discounts to all shoppers.
Bob Colgrove, Albertsons Southwest division president, said that the reason for ending the program is to give all the consumers in the marketplace the same great deals regardless of having to have a loyalty card. These promotions, called "Bonus Buys," will be offered for individual items available to all customers.
According to published reports, the preferred card program is being shut down in 79 Albertsons stores in the Southwest. Previously, the retailer cancelled the program at its 46 stores in Colorado and Wyoming.
Other supermarkets in the market, including Safeway, Fry's, and Bashas', said they plan to keep their cards, the reports said.
