Albertsons to Close More Texas Stores
BOISE, Idaho -- Albertsons, LLC, based here, said it would close six more stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth market, making for a total of 11 shuttered stores statewide, according to local reports.
A spokeswoman for the company said stores in Allen, Colleyville, Grapevine, Irving, and McKinney, Texas were all underperforming. "When we came together as Albertsons, LLC in June we closed a handful of stores," said Jennifer Vroman. "There were some others that were underperforming that were left open so we could see if we could turn them around." Some of the stores were able to become profitable again, said Vroman, adding that others were unable to do so.
Following the closings, which are slated to take place by mid-March, there will be 71 stores in Dallas-Fort Worth and 93 in Texas. Albertsons is also closing three stores in Austin, Amarillo, and Lubbock. Vroman said the closures will affect about 450 employees locally and about 900 statewide, who will either be placed in other stores or offered severance packages.
In June Albertsons was split into three companies. New York firm Cerberus Capital Management formed a private company with 661 stores, including those in Texas.
