Ahold’s Chief Corporate Governance Counsel to Step Down
Lodewijk Hijmans van den Bergh, chief corporate governance counsel at Ahold and a member of the international retail conglomerate's management board and executive committee, will depart during the first half of 2015.
Having joined Ahold in December 2009, van den Bergh oversaw legal affairs, corporate governance, M&A, product integrity, and the company's Responsible Retailing strategy.
During his tenure, van den Bergh "successfully resolved some of the key legacy issues of Ahold," noted Dick Boer, CEO of the Amsterdam-based company. "[He] actively contributed to the development and execution of Ahold's strategic agenda, including the ICA divestment, the acquisition of bol.com and the recent acquisition of SPAR in the Czech Republic. Lodewijk has also played a pivotal role in developing [the] Responsible Retailing strategy. Following these accomplishments, we agreed that this is the right time to change the legal role within Ahold."
Ahold is currently in the process of finding a successor.
