Ahold USA Banners Raise $65MM to Fight Child Cancer

QUINCY, Mass. - Ahold USA divisions Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover said yesterday that they raised a combined $6.5 million through the 2006 Triple Winner Game, marking the biggest take to date for the scratch-card promotion, which started 16 years ago at Stop & Shop to help beat childhood cancer.

Giant began offering the promotion after integrating its operations with Stop & Shop in 2004. The banners depend on customers, vendors, and their baseball franchise partners, the Boston Red Sox, the New York Mets, and the Baltimore Orioles, to raise funds.

In the Triple Winner Game, every ticket is an instant winner, offering prizes of a free product, gift certificate, or cash prize up to $10,000. Throughout the summer, customers receive a Triple Winner Game ticket for each dollar they donated to fight pediatric cancer.

The program has so far raised over $38 million for childhood cancer research.

The Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover area operates 560 stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and the District of Columbia.
