Ahold to Move Corporate Center

Netherlands-based international retail conglomerate Ahold said it planned to relocate its corporate center from Amsterdam to Zaandam in the second quarter of 2013.

The corporate center, consisting of the corporate executive board and about 150 employees working in support functions, will move to Ahold’s building in Zaandam, which currently houses the management teams and support organizations of company divisions Ahold Europe, Albert Heijn, Etos, Gall & Gall, and albert.nl.

“This move will enable us to maximize synergies and save costs,” explained Dick Boer, CEO of the company, which operates the Stop & Shop, Giant-Landover and Giant-Carlisle banners in the United States. “In Zaandam, we will benefit from co-location with our colleagues in Ahold Europe, while continuing to be located near to Amsterdam with its business and financial community and Schiphol Airport.”

According to Boer, the corporate center has been located in Amsterdam for the past eight years.
