Ahold Appoints Marcelo Silva President of G. Barbosa
ZAANDAM, The Netherlands - The Ahold Corporate Executive Board has appointed Marcelo Silva president of its recently acquired Brazilian supermarket company G. Barbosa, effective Jan. 2, 2002. Silva is currently chief financial officer at Bompreco, Ahold's other Brazilian operation.
In his new position, Silva will report to Tom den Hertog, president of Bompreco and CEO Ahold Brazil.
G. Barbosa operates 32 hypermarkets and supermarkets in northeastern Brazil, with annualized sales of approximately Euro 300 million. Bompreco is market leader in northeastern Brazil with 111 supermarkets and hypermarkets and annualized sales of approximately Euro 1.5 billion.
