AG New England Welcomes MWD Managers

As a result of its recent acquisition of Manchester Wholesale Distributors (MWD), Associated Grocers of New England has four new members on its management team: Raymond Tetu as VP of non-member business development, Christine Letares as administrator of non-member business development, Ronald Roberts as a retail sales counselor, and David Haley as a retail counselor

During his 25 years with Manchester, N.H.-based MWD, Tetu rose to be CEO of the 70-year-old, family-owned and -operated business. “Ray’s many years of service to convenience stores brings a great depth of knowledge and experience to Associated Convenience Grocers,” AG New England’s convenience store division, according to Mike Violette, AG New England SVP of sales and retail development.

Tetu held many positions with MWD: shift manager, operations manger, buyer, sales manager, and since 2005, CEO. His grandfather, Robert Tetu, founded the company in 1939. “Having run my own business,” says Tetu, “I have been exposed to, and responsible for, every aspect of it. I have a strong understanding of all the moving parts of a business and how each is dependent upon the rest.”

A 22-year veteran of MWD, Letares worked at the company as a customer service representative, buyer, accounts payable manager and credit manager. Before joining that company, Letares worked at Pearl Manor and Felton Brush, both in Manchester, in addition to Sherwood Construction in Nashua, N.H.

Roberts was previously a sales consultant at MWD. “Ron has a nine-year record of sales success,” observed Steve Felton, general manager of ACG (Associated Convenience Grocers), AG New England’s convenience store division, which now serves many former customers of MWD. “He will be key to continuing the growth of ACG customers and increasing the depth of services available to them.”

Roberts was a sales representative for seven years at the Hershey Co., and spent 10 years as general manager of Parker’s Maple Barn Restaurant in Mason, N.H.

Of Haley, Felton said: “Dave will be a tremendous asset, leveraging his years of experience in the grocery and convenience industry, including nine years as sales consultant and sales manager with [MWD]. With AG New England as their new distributor, Dave’s MWD convenience store clients can move to the next level of service and selection.” Before coming to MWD, Haley was a front end manager for the Tewksbury, Mass.-based Demoulas Market Basket organization, where he held several positions over his 16-year tenure.

Owned entirely by independent retail grocers as members of a cooperative, Pembroke, N.H.-based AG New England is the largest retailer-owned, wholesale grocery distribution center in New England. The company serves independent retail food stores in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and the upstate New York/Albany area.
