After Irene, Retailer Helps Shoppers
Although Hurricane Irene proved to be less devastating than expected for many areas on the East Coast, record flooding was reported in some places, and millions were left without power, water or Internet or phone service, in the aftermath of the storm.
While many retailers made sure to offer emergency supplies such as bottled water and flashlights ahead of the hurricane, others provided free assistance for those affected by the severe weather. Matthews, N.C.-based grocery chain Harris Teeter has set up distribution points where residents in surrounding communities can receive free water and ice. Store locations serving as distribution points are New Bern, Morehead City, and Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; and Williamsburg, Newport News and Suffolk, Va.
Residents of those areas can visit www.harristeeter.com or the grocer’s Facebook page for updates to distribution locations and times.
