Acme Markets, Clemens Toast New PLCB One Stop Shop Deals

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The mating of state-run liquor outlets with grocery stores continues in Pennsylvania. The state's Liquor Control Board here recently approved plans to open two new One Stop Shops, which are the full-service wine and spirits stores it has been placing within grocery stores. The two new outlets will be in suburban Philadelphia.

The PLCB said it negotiated leases to open a 3,325-square-foot One Stop Shop in Acme Markets' Horsham, Pa. store; and a 3,568-square-foot unit in a Clemens Family Market supermarket in Hatfield, Pa. Both are expected to open by early 2006.

"Of all of the innovations we've introduced in the past several years, One Stop Shops have been one of the most popular," said PLCB chairman Jonathan Newman. "Customers enjoy the convenience of these stores, and we will continue to explore new locations throughout the commonwealth."

While Clemens already hosts several of the state stores, this will be Acme first. "We have three other locations with PLCB One Stop Shops, and the partnership has proven to be a positive experience for our customers," said Mark Clemens, director of community marketing for the 23-store Clemens Market chain.

The PLCB has opened 10 One Stop Shops since December 2003. Six more are scheduled to open by the end of 2005.
